Sustainability and Climate Action Plan
Embedding Sustainability Across Our Curriculum
Sustainability and climate education are woven into every stage of learning. Our curriculum ensures pupils develop a deep understanding of climate change, biodiversity, decarbonisation, adaptation and resilience, and green skills through engaging, practical experiences.
In Science, we use Developing Experts to teach pupils about ecosystems, renewable energy, and the impact of human activity on the planet. Lessons explore real-world challenges and solutions, helping children understand the science behind climate change and conservation.
In Geography and Design & Technology, our Curriculum Maestro planning incorporates topics such as sustainable design, resource management, and global environmental issues. Pupils learn how communities adapt to climate risks and how innovation can support a transition to net zero.
Through PSHE, using 1 Decision, we develop pupils’ sense of responsibility and agency. Lessons focus on making informed choices, understanding social impact, and promoting behaviours that protect the environment.
Across all subjects, we embed opportunities for pupils to learn in nature through Forest School, gardening projects, and outdoor investigations. These experiences build practical green skills—such as problem-solving, collaboration, and critical thinking—preparing pupils for future careers in a sustainable economy.
Our approach ensures that sustainability is not a standalone topic but a whole-school ethos, empowering pupils to become informed, responsible citizens who can lead positive change for the planet.

Achieving Sustainability
Social Impact Awards
Achieving the SuperKind Social Impact Award for two consecutive years (2024 and 2025) demonstrates our commitment to creating positive change in our community and environment. This award supports sustainability in several ways:
- Promotes Environmental Awareness: Pupils learn how their actions impact the planet, encouraging responsible choices like reducing waste, recycling, and conserving resources.
- Encourages Conservation Projects: Through award activities, children engage in hands-on projects such as tree planting, habitat creation, and litter picking, which directly benefit local biodiversity.
- Fosters Climate Action: The award framework includes themes like reducing carbon footprints, supporting Fairtrade, and advocating for sustainable lifestyles. Empowers Young Leaders: By involving pupils in decision-making and community initiatives, the award nurtures leadership skills and inspires future green careers.
- Connects Social Impact to Sustainability: It helps children understand that caring for people and the planet go hand-in-hand, reinforcing our school’s ethos of kindness and environmental stewardship.
