Impact

By the time our children leave Asmall, they should be able to:

  • Listen attentively to spoken Spanish and show understanding by joining in and responding.
  • Explore the patterns and sounds of language through songs and rhymes and link the spelling, sound and meaning of words.
  • Engage in conversations, ask and answer questions, express opinions and respond to those of others, and seek clarification and help.
  • Speak in sentences, using familiar vocabulary, phrases and basic language structures.
  • Develop accurate pronunciation and intonation so that others understand when they are reading aloud or using familiar words and phrases.
  • Present ideas and information orally to a range of audiences.
  • Read carefully and show understanding of words, phrases and simple writing.
  • Appreciate stories, songs, poems and rhymes in Spanish

Throughout their time at Asmall, children will have taken part in several World Languages Days and will have an appreciation of the vast array of languages spoken around the world.

They will understand that there are several languages spoken by children in our school.

They will know that Spanish is spoken in many countries around the world and will be able to talk about this.

They will be well prepared for MFL teaching in key stage three, whether this is continuing with Spanish or beginning a new language.
