Music Curriculum Overview

Asmall largely moved to the Kapow Scheme in January 2023 after trialling Kapow music the previous term. Each year group follows the units identified on our curriculum overview, along with planned enrichment from Lancashire Music Service, through the Wider Opportunities Programme (WOPS).

Throughout Reception to Year 4, our children develop their understanding of various styles of music and learn to read and write both graphic scores and traditional music notation. They also learn to play the recorder and glockenspiel. The Kapow Scheme includes units in which the children in Years 3 and 4 develop their competence in playing tuned instruments.     In Upper Key Stage 2, children take part in WOPS every week, during which every child is taught to play a tuned musical instrument throughout Years 5 and 6.
