Impact

Through the high quality first teaching of music taking place, we will see the impact of the music curriculum in different ways:

  • Monitoring will show that, in our spiral music curriculum, a range of music topics has been covered which shows progression during their time at primary school
  • Children will be confident performers, composers and listeners and will be able to express themselves musically at and beyond school
  • Children will be engaged in music lessons and want to learn or be involved more, e.g. taking part in extra-curricular activities, learning to play an instrument, joining a choir or writing music themselves
  • Children will be able to talk about the skills and knowledge they have acquired. They will be able to talk about instruments, styles of music, types of notation and their personal response to the music they have experienced
  • Children will show appreciation and respect for a wide range of musical styles from around the world and will understand how music is influenced by the wider cultural, social and historical contexts in which it is developed
  • Children will understand the ways in which music can be written down to support performing and composing activities
  • Children will demonstrate and articulate an enthusiasm for music and will be able to identify their own personal music preferences
  • Assessments and monitoring will show that children meet the key expectations outlined in the national curriculum for music
  • Children are ready for the Key Stage 3 Music curriculum
