Impact

After the implementation of Maestro Primary Art and Design, pupils should leave school with a broad and confident understanding of artistic expression, equipped with the creative skills and knowledge to succeed in their secondary education and to become imaginative, reflective individuals.

The expected impact of following the Maestro Primary Art and Design scheme of work is that children will:

➔ Develop a secure understanding of the visual elements of art, including line, shape, colour, texture, pattern, and form.
➔ Use a wide range of materials and techniques confidently, including drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, printmaking, and digital media.
➔ Explore and respond to the work of a diverse range of artists, designers, and craftspeople from different cultures and time periods.
➔ Apply artistic enquiry methods such as:

  • Observational drawing to explore detail and proportion.
  • Experimenting with media to discover effects and textures.
  • Evaluating and refining their own work and the work of others.
  • Asking questions about artistic choices and meanings.
  • Exploring symbolism and mood in visual art.
  • Making connections between art and other subjects or real-world contexts.

➔ Communicate ideas, emotions, and stories through their artwork, using appropriate vocabulary to discuss their creative choices.
➔ Reflect on their artistic journey, showing resilience and a willingness to take creative risks.
➔ Appreciate the role of art in society and its power to express identity, culture, and values.
➔ Develop a lifelong enjoyment of art and creativity, recognising its importance in both personal and professional contexts.
