History Impact
After the implementation of Maestro Primary History, pupils should leave school with a strong understanding of the past, equipped with the knowledge and skills to succeed in their secondary education and to become thoughtful, analytical members of society.
The expected impact of following the Maestro Primary History scheme of work is that children will:
➔ Develop a secure understanding of key historical events, periods, and significant individuals from Britain and the wider world.
➔ Use historical vocabulary confidently to describe and discuss chronology, change, cause, and consequence.
➔ Understand how to use a range of sources to investigate the past, including artefacts, documents, photographs, oral accounts, and digital archives.
➔ Apply historical enquiry methods such as:
- Asking and answering questions about the past.
- Comparing sources to identify bias or reliability.
- Sequencing events to understand chronology.
- Using timelines to place events in context.
- Analysing cause and effect in historical developments.
- Exploring different perspectives and interpretations of events.
➔ Ask perceptive questions, think critically, and make informed judgements about historical evidence and interpretations.
➔ Recognise how the past has shaped the present and how historical events continue to influence our lives today.
➔ Develop empathy and understanding of different cultures, societies, and perspectives throughout history.
➔ Communicate their understanding of history through discussion, writing, drama, and other creative forms.
➔ Appreciate the importance of historical enquiry and develop a lifelong interest in learning about the past.
